Henry Flynt - Back Porch Hillbilly Blues Vol. 1 & 2 (Locust Music, 2002)...
Like a hidden relic from the far side of the Harry Smith catalog, these early 1960s recordings are a splendid collection of High lonesome hillbilly fiddle and ukulele instrumentals that are surely Henry Flynt's most articulated statements to date of his honest to god, true to life affinity and love for that dry earth choogaloo upper mountain lower boogaloo foot stomping folk music. Standouts include the acid fried 13th Floor Elevators-ish 'Sky Turned Red' and the 15 plus minute lazy zen epic hum and strum album closer, 'Blue Sky, Highway and Tyme'. No doubt, this is Appalachian bruit driving music bar none.

This Heat - Made Available : John Peel Sessions (ReR, 2006)...
In 1996, This Heat's 1977 Peel Sessions were finally released and demonstrated once again that This Heat were untouchable, effortlessly unfurling a sound equal parts avant pop, krautrock, progrock, musique concrete and a handful of parts that defied easy classification. Every track here a jaw dropping, mind blowing performance. Especially the new version of "Horizontal Hold", one of This Heat's finest moments already, played here with much more verve and vigor and with a sound quality so much clearer, a recording so incredibly hot, that the song is reborn and completely confounds and amazes. The whole session is rhythmically dense, rife with bastardized pop, incredibly complex arrangements all rendered again in such a way that they are emotional and moving, instead of just intellectual musical exercises. And the sound is so crystal clear, that you can hear a band at the top of their game, taking over the BBC studio and using it like they would a second guitar or another drummer. The Peel Sessions also include a handful of songs that never made it onto records proper. All as good as anything on their official releases. (Aquarius Records)
Recorded in 1977 for the John Peel Show at BBC Maida Vale Studios, London.
Originally released in 1996 on These Records as These 10 CD.
Remastered by Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward & un autre clampin qui s'appelle Dominique Brethes at Wolf Studios, Brixton, February 2006.

Volahn - Dimensiónes del Trance Kósmico (Crepusculo Negro, 2008)...
"Volahn is the next progression where your physical existence ends and you are a entity of pure kaos. Transcendence of flesh to stars, Black Twilight manifest where art is greater than the artist. 4 years of pushing mind and flesh. The incomprehensible kosmic truth.
Covers adorned in Mayan Blood through Black Twilight bloodletting Kaos ritual."
New project by Volahn from Ashdautas (USA). This album is 4 years in the making and is the second album of the Black Twilight Circle.
Sick hun-xib (thats 'one-man' in Mayan) Black Metal from the dank murk and depression of Long Beach, California about to have a vinyl/cd release on Klaxon Records and touring with Bone Awl (only in the u.s. of course) in May 2009, unless the mass rioting has broken out by then (but maybe that'll be the best time for them to play?)

C.R.E.A.M.
I wouldn't call this entertainment, but I guarantee you it's the best 3.5 hours you'll ever invest in your education. This amazing 3.5 hour documentary will teach you the entire history of money and banking, how it works and how the central bankers have robbed the wealth of nations, including our own. You’ll discover how bankers create the illusion that they have all the wealth, and how they get governments, corporations and all of us indebted to them, the primary mechanism they use to control virtually everything. You’ll also learn how they are the primary cause of all inflation, start virtually every war, and how they are engineering a world government and monetary system that they alone control...

Cripple Bastards - Punk's Not Music : Collection Tape (Upground, 1995)...
"Good sequel to the "1988-1991" MC - compiling unreleased CB live/reh/studio recordings going from 1992 to early '95. Over 70 tracks in 60 minutes, variating from the older CB Noisecore nihilism to new, more structured tracks written for the ep's coming out those years, showing our attempt to amalgamate extreme Grind rawness w/ the basic features of '80s italian Hardcore. 1990...
Curt Kirkwood - Snow (Little Dog, 2005)...
Kirkwood's been recording for well over 20 years now. In the early 1980s, he formed the Meat Puppets with brother Cris on bass and their friend Derek Bostrom on drums. In 10 albums over about a dozen years, the "Pups" were one of the most influential underground bands. Born out of their desert home in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona, the Meat Puppets sound blended disparate elements of country, metal, acid rock and hardcore punk. Their lyrics, most by Curt, drew on imagery from nature and dadaist poetry fueled by cannabis and psychedelics. The brothers sang purposely in close, frequently dissonant harmonies that paid ironic homage to sibling duos that came before. It was a glorious mess, and it inspired bands from Minneapolis to Seattle that later formed the core of the grunge and indie-rock movements of the '90s and beyond. The band imploded in the face of near fame and Cris Kirkwood's heroin addiction in the late '90s. Curt moved to Austin, played in a couple of other short-lived bands, and did a little solo touring with the likes of Jerry Joseph. Momentum picked up when he reunited in Austin with Anderson, who had produced the Pups 1991 major-label debut, Forbidden Places. Snow finds Kirkwood playing mostly acoustic guitars and penning some songs that, while retaining his signature lyrical flourishes, often touch closer to the heart than most anything he's recorded before. The most radio-friendly is the opener. "Golden Lies," carrying the same title as the last Meat Puppets album (also known as Meat Puppets 2.0, since Kirkwood was the only original member), has typical Kirkwood non-sequitur lyrics like "giant spiders are heavenly spies," and a catchy chorus, "Golden swans on the desert / recite golden lies." It's all delivered in Curt's distinctive quavery light baritone over a simply strummed acoustic guitar; pedal steel and piano fills add color.

Forgotten Woods & Ravn...
Raw as fuck demos with throat-cancer style vocals. Totally underrated (although lauded critically) considering they stood alongside the likes of Burzum, Ildjarn, et al, playing dirty and depressive, misanthropic Black Metal.
Ravn was the side project of Rune Vedaa (who with Olav Berland have been the only consistent members of Forgotten Woods) and was formed in 93 and changed the name (ever so slightly) to Raven after these demos were released. Rumours say that Raven is now a solo band, changed their name to Mengele, and is still making music, but not recording.
(I can't remember if ive posted Forgotten Woods last long player 'Race of Cain', i know the first album 'As the Wolves Gather' is back in the archives but if not go see Attila The Hun and he'll sort you out)

J. Spaceman - Guitar Loops (2006)
J. Spaceman plays in Spiritualized and used to play in Spacemen 3. This is an album of edited guitar snippets, ranging from sheet-metal clang wailing to calm Oval breakfast moments. The dynamics and storytelling are particularly impressive. Chirp chirp suddenly turns into Pterodactyl screech and you're fucked. Great stuff. Probably disliked by Spiritualized fans and vice-versa.

Skuggeheim - Vinterrikets Konge (Fossbrenna Creations, 2007)...
With this Norwegian demo tape, we’ve finally come to witness some evilness at its best again. If you happen to miss the cold harshness, furious black winds and the satanic soul of good old Black Metal, then Vinterrikets Konge really does it for you. The raw production, the tape format alone give some bands a boost of course, but Skuggeheim have more to offer: very well-written riffs, pure minimalism in a classy way without sounding watered down or generic. Some melodies sound cold, others are rather full of malignity and at times even accoustic passages in the vein of early Ulver can be found. The latter actually enriches the work with even more mystery and fascination. In conclusion: a very solid tape, not a total masterpiece maybe, but as I said before, something for those who crave for the evil spirit in Black Metal.

Eek-A-Mouse - Mouseketeer (Greensleeves, 1984)...
It is not only Eek-A-Mouse's 6 feet 6 inches height that make him one of Jamaica's most individual talents. He has created a style all his own, and gone on to become something of an international phenomenon quite apart from the rest of the world of reggae. Hylton's unusual name was originally that of a racehorse upon which he frequently lost money; when the horse finally won a race, he had, of course, refused to back it... (read on)

Interlard - Sticky (2008)...
Interlard create a loud unpleasant cacophony that very few people would admit to enjoying, and fewer still really do.
Despite tastes eclectic enough to border on the realms of attention deficit, Interlard’s main influences remain: street noise, garden machinery, detuned radios and playing multiple sounds simultaneously.
They unify these diverse influences by saturating them in layers of distorted squall, hypnotic/annoying badly synched, voodooesque drum beats and then more layers of distorted squall. Indecipherable, barely human, voices are trampled, scraped up and then buried by a dense barrage of low-end filth, and then this is repeated end on end like some kind of autistic ritual until it no longer resembles what it hardly resembled in the first place.
Infamously reclusive, Interlard exist, primarily, ensconced in a damp, windowless, subterranean room in a industrial suburb of Birmingham UK. They seldom play live only having been coaxed out into a public setting once, for the very same reasons that they remain a 2-piece band: Partly due to sociopathic tendencies, partly from an apathy borne of isolation and an inability to network.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band: Grow Fins Rarities 1965-1982 (Revenant,1999)
Amazing 5xCD box-set released by John Fahey's label Revenant...
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band set rock on its ear from 1965 until 1982, when leader Don Van Vliet retired from music. Engineering a mutant strain of musical DNA (tuff-ass garage punk R-n-B, extraterrestrial field hollers, austere "classical" miniatures, loping sea shanties, scorched-earth delta blues, free-blowing skronk, fat-bottom groove and post-everything clangor all found their way into the soup), CB&HMB are now regarded as one of the most original and consistently compelling bands ever waxed. The closest to a Best Of collection as we are likely to see, this career-spanning set corrals rare tracks from a variety of sources (band members' personal archives, live tracks, demos, worktapes, radio spots) and the complete Trout Mask Replica house sessions.

Min Kniv - Av Aske (Fossbrenna Creations, 2007)...
The first demo from this two man band from Trondheim, Norway released by relatively new Norweigian cassette label Fossbrenna. Rolls in at 24 minutes, comprising of 3 tracks and all untitled. Cold and atmospheric with sick reverbed screeching, tempo changes, standard repetitive simple riffs and dull drums ..great. Again like most BM posted on here this is primitive and depressive in the tradition of early Norweigian Black Metal.

Sextrash - Sexual Carnage (Cogumelo, 1990)...
Insulter exploded on the Brazilian metal scene with their primitive demo in 1987. After this first demo they changed their name to the sexually charged name 'Sextrash'. A band that was co-formed by D.D. Crazy of Sarcofago fame. Furthermore it would be the 'XXX' EP which would give them their coined death/thrash sound. Sexual Carnage is very close sounding to a combination of Sepultura's 'Schizophrenia' and Sarcofago's 'I.N.R.I.' Often displaying thrash montages and blast beats throughout this transitional release. As well as quick raspy vocals and occasional deep growled insults.
